Former Beatle Paul McCartney and former Beach Boy Brian Wilson will each perform Sept. 18 at the second annual Open Hearts. Clear Minds event in Los Angeles. Organized by McCartney’s new bride Heather Mills, the event will be hosted by comedian Jay Leno, and also feature the Wondermints, who have been backing Wilson on his recent tours.
The Open Hearts. Clear Mines benefit will be held at L.A.’s Century Plaza Hotel, and will raise funds and encourage sponsors to take part in the Adopt-A-Minefield initiative that clears and provides assistance to survivors affected by forgotten weapons. Individual tickets to the event start at $500; for more information, contact Levi, Panzanti & Associates at 310-201-5033.
Landmines have long been the focus of Mills’ efforts, and McCartney has lent his help to the cause on several occasions. Currently, the Adopt-A-Minefield Web site offers among its fundraising items prints of McCartney’s art for $50. The Open Hearts. Clear Minds event will precede the previously reported kick off to McCartney’s second North American arena tour of the year, due to open Sept. 21 in Milwaukee.
Next month, Wilson and the Wondermints will return the road with new club tour dates set to begin Aug. 14 in Chicago. The artists will be out supporting “Brian Wilson Presents Pet Sounds Live,” a concert recording of the Beach Boys classic 1966 “Pet Sounds” album captured in January in London and recently released via Sanctuary. The Wondermints are also gearing up for the release of their own album, “Mind If We Make Love to You,” due Sept. 10 via Image Entertainment/Smile Records.
